IC:

Character name: Suzaku Kururugi
Fandom: Code Geass
Timeline: Shortly after he was appointed to Knight of Zero, before they meet with the world representatives but after Suzaku defeats the Knights of Round that tried to attack Lelouch. Before they discover that Nunnally is still alive.
Age: 18
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:
Suzaku is a human that possesses an abnormal degree of speed, strength and endurance. He is always training at some point or another; he has a quick mind and can learn or understand things quicker than what people assume him to be able to do.

As far as magical abilities go the only one he has is the Geass Lelouch casted on him. A Geass comes from a contract made with an immortal of the world of C. It can be in the form of a number of different abilities. In the case of Lelouch, the main character of Geass, it is in the ability of "absolute obedience". This means when Lelouch makes direct eye contact with someone he can order them to do anything he wishes, with the catch that it can only be cast on a single person once.

Suzaku’s Geass order is the “Live On” Geass. This means that if he is any kind of situation that is likely to kill him, or if he tries to sacrifice himself, the Geass activates and his body is forced to do all it can to live. However Suzaku has been able to train himself to use the Geass to his advantage. If he is faced with a dangerous situation, he can channel the ability into heightening his already abnormal strengths, making him a truly dangerous force to foes. It comes with a price, though. Since he wants to atone for his sins via death he can never do so. He is cursed to have this Geass the rest of his life.

Another thing that is shown in the series, as far as magical abilities go, is the fact that Suzaku seems to have keen ability to be able to tell when someone has been Geassed and/or possesses a Geass. This might be directly linked to the fact that he has a ‘semi-contract’ with C.C., one that she placed on him to save Lelouch when he was almost caught in season one.

In regards to fighting with his Knightmare frame, humanoid war machines developed by the Holy Britannian Empire, Lancelot Suzaku is an exceptional pilot. Though the ability may not help him in the game he is well known for his ability with piloting them. He can predict movements and defeat enemy's that many thought were unbeatable. This is how he got one of his nicknames, Britannia's White Grim Reaper.

How would they use their abilities?: Suzaku, with his abilities, would more than likely use them to up hold rules on the ship. He has a strong sense of honor and justice. Even though certain events have changed his outlook, he would still try to keep the peace. Not wanting any kind of unneeded violence or bloodshed Suzaku will do his best to use all of his abilities. Anyone that he would view as a threat would be handled to the best of his abilities. The point I am taking him from is also when he is a Knight of Zero and his top priority would the safety of his Emperor, Lelouch. Anything that threatens him will be left with having to face him. In the chance that Lelouch is not in the game, Suzaku might be left with a feeling as though he is without a purpose. If that is the case then he would more than likely find a way he could help with the law enforcement on the ship. With his pride held into account, and his given high rank within the Britannian forces, he would demand a degree of respect.

Appearance: While Suzaku is of Japanese blood, he doesn't portray the traditional Japanese stereotype in anime and manga with brown hair and green eyes. He is however a full blooded Japanese citizen. He is about 5’8” with a muscular, yet slim, build and body with slightly tan skin. This can be assumed to a degree of his work where he is outside more often than not; it can also go into account for his muscular build. His hair is a little more on the messy side, a little shaggy but nothing long or extremely untreated. Despite that, he still takes his appearance seriously. He is always seen wearing the required uniform and presents himself in a dignified manner. The clothes he will be wearing with he arrives will be his Knight of Zero uniform. It consists of a tight under shirt and pants, which also acts as his Knightmare uniform, as well as his belts and his cape. All of the items have various ‘eyes’, or red orbs, on them that represent Lelouch’s Geassed eyes. I will provide a picture to better show the uniform, just in case I’m hard to understand in my description. Suzaku will not have his Sword though, since that isn’t something he has until later in the second season.

Background/Personality:

Background:

(Since Code Geass is a long series with an incredible amount of canon, I will try to hit on key points within it that explain his character more than telling his full history. I'm also going to take the option to do a separate history and personality, since it said it was okay in the rules.)

In the point that I am taking Suzaku from, he has already been through many events. He has become the right-hand man of the devil; Lelouch, the new Emperor of the Holy Empire of Britannia[1], has given him the title ‘Knight of Zero’. While his goals only change slightly the means to those goals change greatly. Everything happens because of the choices he makes and how they affect those around him. Suzaku is forced to grow up and face what the world truly is:. An unfair and cruel place where the people you hold dear can disappear in the blink of an eye and friends can change into a complete stranger.

Even as a child, Suzaku makes a choice that changes his life as well as Japan's. At the age of nine years old Suzaku meets Lelouch and Nunnally. The Britannian royals were sent to live with his family in Japan as bargaining chips. When they arrive Suzaku immediately despises Lelouch. He assumes the Britannian prince sees himself as someone better than the Japanese. As the son of the Prime Minister of Japan, he acts bratty and rarely puts others before himself before other in general. He constantly bullies Lelouch, even punching him in front of Nunnally on one occasion. Suzaku’s bullying only stops when the blind and crippled girl tries to defend her brother. Seeing her condition and how they care for each other, Suzaku feels bad for the way he has treated them. He begins to change his opinion of the two of them and a friendship begins to form. Over the next year, Suzaku comes to care greatly for both of them and begins starts to realize that he isn’t the only one that matters.

On August 10, 2010 a.t.b.[2], Britannian forces invade Japan with a new weapon called Knightmare frames. Knightmare frames are humanoid war machines developed by the Holy Britannian Empire that run on a core made of Sakuradite, a mineral that Japan holds 70% of its supply. Japan tries to fight back but, against the Knightmares, they don’t stand a chance. They quickly fall to the might of Britannia. Still Suzaku’s father tries to keep to a 'do-or-die' policy, not wanting Japan to give up. Even as a child, Suzaku puts great importance in the preservation of life and opposes this policy. He tries to talk his father into repealing this policy but the latter ignores him. As a result, and on impulse, he stabs his father, hoping that the Prime Minister’s death will end the war. When the Japanese authorities find out about this, they decide to cover it up and say, instead, that the Prime Minister had committed suicide. This cover up keeps Suzaku safe from the consequences of his actions, but the guilt remains. From then on, Suzaku decides that he needs to atone for his sins and that anymore unneeded violence must be stopped.

He is separated from Lelouch and Nunnally after this. Eight years later, Britannia has stripped Japan of its name, culture, language and rights. It is now known as Area 11. The Elevens, formerly the Japanese, no longer have any rights and are forced to live in the ghettos. In order to work and avail some rights, they must become Honorary Britannian[3], but even this title does little for an Eleven. Knowing this, Suzaku believes that Britannia can be changed from the inside. He becomes an Honorary Britannian and joins the army. In this way, he believes he can atone for what he had done to his father and Japan. Because of this decision to join the army, he is able to meet Lelouch again and change his destiny.

When terrorists hijack a trailer said to be carrying a poisonous gas bomb, Suzaku is deployed with a unit of Honorary Britannians to the Shinjuku ghettos to retrieve it. He finds the trailer and attacks Lelouch, who he mistakes for a terrorist, only to discover that Lelouch was only at the wrong place at the wrong time. Happy to see his friend is okay, despite the circumstances. Their reunion is short lived when Suzaku’s superiors arrive. Suzaku is ordered to kill Lelouch. Suzaku refuses and instead looks at Lelouch. Since he’s an innocent civilian he won’t kill him; it’s not right. This shows how naïve Suzaku can be. He refuses to kill anyone that isn’t at fault. Because of this answer the officer shoots Suzaku.

A short time later Suzaku wakes up in a field hospital; bandaged but alive. The pocket watch that had belonged to his father had saved his life. Suzaku takes the item back saying it’s a treasured item to him. Though it regret can be seen on his face; the regret that he had lived and that the watch had saved him. It is then he is asked if he wants to test out a new Knightmare. This will serve as a stepping stone to his advancement within Britannia. With the Lancelot, he is able to stop the terrorists attacking Shinjuku as well as Lelouch, though neither of them realize the other’s true identity, and the bloodshed is put to a halt. Lelouch goes on to kill Prince Clovis, the Viceroy of Area 11 and his own half-brother.

With the Prince dead, nobles try to use this incident as a chance to make it where only pure-bloods can be in the military. With fabricated evidence they say Suzaku is the one that killed Prince Clovis. They arrest him and try to get him to say that he did it. Suzaku maintains his innocence and claims that there must be a mistake. He believes in justice and that the courts will find him innocent even if all evidence point to the fact that they have already decided his guilt. When told of the possible injustice, he simply says that he has no regrets for leaving a world that is like that then. In order to save Suzaku, Lelouch with the future Black Knights[4]- makes his debut. Not as Lelouch but as Zero. Admitting he is Clovis’s murder and using his Geass, he saves Suzaku and asks him to join him. Suzaku refuses the offer. He would rather face the courts even with full knowledge that it would damn him. He believes that immoral actions are just that, there is no satisfaction or honor in them. Throughout the series this becomes a commonly seen belief of his.

With no evidence when he returns to the courts, he is acquitted and released. After his release, he meets Euphie, the person that will become everything to him, only he meets her as she is literally falling from above. He then learns that Euphie is actually a Princess of Britannia, Euphemia. They part ways and Suzaku continues to fight as the pilot of the Lancelot until he is ordered to execute a prisoner; a prisoner he knows well. Suzaku has a hard time accepting his orders. So it is some relief to him when Zero frees the man. Battling this man in the Lancelot is when his true identity is revealed to all. After this reveal, Euphie announces that Suzaku will become her personal knight.

At first Suzaku rejects this title, feeling that he will only bring trouble to her because of his status as an Eleven. After they both admit their feelings for one another, however, he accepts the position. He is then asked, by someone higher than Euphie, to sacrifice himself to destroy Zero. Only this time Lelouch casts the “Live On” Geass[5] on him. He is now cursed to always live and to never be able to try to sacrifice himself again. He escapes and they are all able to live past this.

Time passes and Euphie reveals her hopes to open an area for the Elevens where they can once again be Japanese. Suzaku is hopeful and helps her in any way he can, even though he is wary when she asks Zero to be there. Zero goes to speak with Euphie in private, leaving Suzaku outside where he passes out after he touches C.C.[6]. When he wakes back up he is greeted by the sound of gunshots. Zero has cast Geass on Euphie and has ordered her to kill all Japanese. Suzaku can’t imagine Euphie doing such a thing and he tries to stop and save her. When he does find her, it’s already too late. Zero has shot her. He returns to the Avalon[7], asking for the doctors to help her. But it’s too late, she was fatally wounded.

On her death bed Suzaku sits next to her, questions rushing in his mind. He’s left to ask why she would give those orders. Because of the Geass Euphie has no memory of giving such an order or any of the actions she took. Instead she asks if the Japanese people are happy with being allowed to be Japan again. Not wanting her to know the truth. Suzaku lies to her and tells her that everyone is happy. He tells her they can continue to go to school together even when she can no longer see him. Euphie dies there with Suzaku holding her hand and she is now known as the “Bloody Princess” instead of the kind person she really was. It’s at this moment that something snaps in Suzaku’s mind. He no longer wants to simply capture Zero. He wants to kill him. Hatred now consumes him and his actions.

After Euphie's death and attack on the Japanese the first major battle of the Black Rebellion begins. Zero leads the Black Knights in to an attack on the Tokyo Settlement, the major strong hold of Britannia in Area 11. With Britannia’s head of military, Cornelia li Britannia[8],locked in Euphie's room. The Black Knights are able to cause great damage to the settlement. Cornelia, returned to her senses, seeks revenge on Zero and orders her men to defeat the Black Knight but to leave Zero for her. Suzaku, still enraged over Euphie's death, begins to destroy everyone that gets in the way of his search for Zero. Any concern for the other pilots surviving his attacks now the furthest thought in his mind. Zero appears before him and lures the other into a trap, using students at the school as a shield. Suzaku’s attack stopped. Zero is able to trap Lancelot in a ring of Gefjun Disturbers[9]. Unable to move Lancelot, Suzaku's rage only increases as Zero moves to attack Cornelia. Trapped at the school, Cecile arrives and destroys the Gefjun Disturbers. Now free Suzaku goes to find Cornelia. Suzaku finds her already defeated by Zero and she tells him that Zero is at Kamine Island. She asks him to clear Euphemia's name and makes him a real knight.

Following Zero to Kamine Island he faces him in the cave. Shooting his mask in order to reveal the man’s face. He then discovers it is Lelouch. Though he had thought it might have been him all along. He tried to put faith in his friend and denied the fact that it might be him. Now, though, there is no more denying it. Suzaku knows of the Geass now, thanks to V.V.[10] and that his friend Geassed Euphie to kill the Japanese. He pulls his gun on Lelouch and in a show down he is able to apprehend Lelouch. Instead of killing him, he uses him as a tool to advance himself within Britannia further. He sells him out to Charles, Lelouch’s father and Emperor of Britannia. In exchange, he becomes a Knight of Round[11], then becoming Knight of Seven. With this arrangement Charles uses his own Geass, which was unknown that he had, to rewrite Lelouch’s memories. With Lelouch as a normal student, Suzaku takes Nunnally in order to protect her from Lelouch’s lies, and replaces her with a false brother, Rolo[12]. The Britannia intelligence agents keep a close eye on Lelouch, ordered that if his memories return he is to be killed.

A year passes. No longer attending school, Suzaku devotes all of his times to the Knights of Round. With his efforts he has earned the nickname, The White Grim Reaper, a title that he is unafraid of using on the battlefield. The part of Suzaku that believed killing was unneeded died off and he realized how naïve he really had been. Nothing was obtained without some having to die.

Suzaku returns to the school when there is word that Lelouch might have regained his memories and once again became Zero. With this information he tries to trick Lelouch by letting him hear Nunnally’s voice but the plan backfires. Still Suzaku can’t stop the fact that his gut says Lelouch is Zero. He continues with Prince Schneizel’s [13] plan and protects Nunnally as she becomes the new Viceroy of Area 11. She tries to do the same thing Euphie did. Not wanting a repeat of old mistakes, Suzaku is a lot more protective of her. Zero, however, plays a bold move and has one million Elevens exiled from Japan by having them all dress as Zero. Not wanting Nunnally to become a second “Bloody Princess”, he allows them to leave.

More events take place only now within the Chinese Federation[14]. After this the Chinese Federation removes any ties with Britannia and they form the Unified Federation of Nations, UFN. In accordance with their law, they ask Zero and the Black knights to “Liberate Japan”. Suzaku soon finds out that Lelouch is in fact Zero, just as he had assumed, only now he tries to form a pact with him. His attempt is stopped by Prince Schneizel’s men, who make it seem like he planned to betray Lelouch all along. Lelouch escapes and they later meet on the battlefield, only now Suzaku has a new weapon: the Field Limitary Effective Implosion Armament (F.L.E.I.J.A.)[15], Suzaku is hesitant to use it because of its destructive potential. He is forced to use it when he almost dies on the battlefield. Suzaku detonates the weapon and it hits the government building, the building Nunnally had been in, along with the surrounding area. He is responsible for the death of over 35,000,000 lives, Britannian and Eleven alike. While reflecting on this fact, in the massive crater left by the weapon, all Suzaku can do is laugh madly at what he had done.

This causes another change in Suzaku. He now fully understands that the ends are more important than the means that are used to reach them. His focus now, more than ever, is to become Knight of One[16]. He makes an offer to assassinate the current Emperor to Schneizel. With Schneizel’s approval Suzaku heads out to do so. When Emperor Charles is gone, Schneizel can become the Emperor and appoint Suzaku with the title of Knight of One. Before he can assassinate the Emperor, however, the current Knight of One stops him and he falls in a stray blast from an attack thanks to Lelouch. When he comes to later on, he follows Lelouch into the Sword of Akasha[17] with C.C.. He becomes witness to Lelouch as he stops Ragnarok[18] and defeats his parents. Still, left bitter about Euphie he tries to get revenge on Lelouch only to be told that nothing is unforgivable.

One month later, with Charles gone, Lelouch reveals himself once more and claims to be the 99th Emperor of Britannia. Suzaku stands by his side now, not as the Knight of One, but as the Knight of Zero.

Have you read up on how the game works?: The FlamingFerret. Through missions, working also through stealing or mooching though Suzaku wouldn’t do a thing like that.

1st person sample: A standard journal entry. Make it at least 100 words. [For characters who don't speak a lot, we're lenient in the word count, so long as there's something substantial to go by. For characters who don't talk at all, a sample video post is enough. :D]

3rd person sample: At least 200 words
